Overview:


The Conservatory is our Professional Program for dedicated dancers ages 14 and up seeking advanced training and preparation for careers in dance. This program offers a rigorous, immersive curriculum focusing on professional-level technique, artistry, and performance skills.


Admission to The Conservatory is by audition or selection, with placement based on technical skill, artistic maturity, and professional potential. Students commit to a full schedule of required classes and are expected to maintain exemplary discipline and attendance.


Performance opportunities include New Beginnings major productions, community outreach performances, competitions, and collaborations, providing valuable stage experience to prepare students for professional environments.


Scholarships and mentorships may be available for highly qualified dancers.

Students enrolled in the Conservatory may have the opportunity to earn a Certificate in Dance in partnership with local colleges. This certification would recognize their training, performance experience, and industry preparation, offering a valuable credential for college applications, professional auditions, and career advancement.


Requirements:







To ensure a comprehensive, well-rounded, and immersive training experience, students enrolled in the Conservatory Program must fulfill the following requirements:

Core Requirements (Mandatory)

  • Ballet – The technical cornerstone of professional dance training, developing precision, strength, alignment, and artistry.

  • Theater – Enhancing stage presence, emotional expression, and the ability to connect with audiences through performance.

  • African/Afro-Caribbean – Building rhythm, grounded movement quality, and cultural understanding through dynamic, heritage-rich techniques.

  • Modern/Contemporary – Fusing classical modern foundations with contemporary movement, encouraging versatility, innovation, and expressive freedom.

Technique Requirements (Mandatory)

  • Modern Technique – A deep study of Horton, Graham, Dunham, and other modern methodologies to strengthen the body, expand movement vocabulary, and develop expressive artistry.

Electives (Choose at least one core elective)

  • Hip Hop

  • Jazz

  • Praise Dance

  • Cheer/Majorette

Additional Technique Courses (Choose at least one)

  • Leaps, Jumps & Turns (ACRO)

  • Stretching & Strengthening 

Optional Add-Ons

Students are encouraged to explore any additional classes that interest them beyond the required curriculum. This allows for personalized training paths, the development of cross-disciplinary skills, and the expansion of artistic expression—essential qualities for a professional dance career.All assigned classes must be taken at the student’s level, with excellent attendance and consistent focus expected.

Attire:

The required attire for each class is detailed in the course catalog to ensure that all students maintain a professional and unified appearance. Proper dancewear allows for optimal movement, alignment correction, and discipline in training.

All students must adhere to the dress code specified for their enrolled classes. Parents and students should refer to the course catalog for specific uniform requirements, including leotards, tights, footwear, and accessories for each dance style.

Failure to comply with the attire guidelines may result in restricted participation in class.

Fees

A $55 Annual Registration Fee is required for all students upon enrollment.

A $25 fee is added if you choose the bi-annual payment plan

A $50 fee is added if you choose the quarterly payment plan. 

You can save 10% when you pay tuition in full upon enrollment.

The Conservatory (Pre-Professional Program)

Purpose

Flexible training path for dancers to explore one, two, or unlimited classes without the mandatory course load of The Conservatory.

Intensive, structured training for advanced dancers preparing for professional careers, advanced college programs, and high-level performance opportunities.

Curriculum Structure

No required courses — dancers select their preferred styles and schedule.

Required core courses in Ballet, Modern, Theatre, and Afro-Fusion/African, plus assigned supplementary classes based on level, ensuring a comprehensive multi-discipline education.

Ballet, Modern Contemporary, African, Hip Hop, Jazz, Praise, Cheer/Majorette, Theatre (Acting), Conditioning Courses, Dunham, Afro-Caribbean.

Ballet, Modern, Afro-Fusion/African, Contemporary, Jazz, Leaps, Jumps & Turns, Praise, Theatre (Acting), and additional professional-level workshops and repertory.

Commitment Level

Flexible attendance — dancers only commit to the classes they choose.

Full participation required in all classes assigned to the dancer’s level; consistent attendance and rigorous practice expected.

Progression

Level placement for each individual class; students progress at their own pace per discipline.

Placement by audition or faculty selection, with levels assigned based on ballet and modern proficiency and other criteria; progression tied to mastery of pre-professional standards.

Performance Opportunities

May participate in showcases or performances based on enrolled classes.

Performance opportunities include major New Beginnings productions, professional-level repertory, and select external events representing the Conservatory.

Faculty Interaction

Personalized instruction within selected classes.

Intensive mentorship, coaching, and preparation for auditions, competitions, and professional engagements.

Track Outcome

Builds a strong technical base and artistic expression; ideal for enrichment, recreational enjoyment, or potential future Conservatory entry.

OVERVIEW

The Core Essentials program in the T.A.P. Division at NB School offers students ages 14 & up a flexible yet high-quality training path in dance. It is designed for young dancers who wish to focus on one discipline, explore two, or enroll in unlimited classes—without the required course load of The Conservatory.


Students may choose from a variety of genres, including Ballet, Modern, Afro-Fusion/African, Hip Hop, Jazz, Praise, Tap, Theater Dance, Conditioning, Dunham, and Afro-Caribbean. Training is tracked according to level, ensuring each dancer is placed appropriately and challenged to progress. This diverse approach encourages versatility, creativity, and an understanding of the cultural richness behind different dance forms.


While The Conservatory follows a structured curriculum with mandatory core courses, Core Essentials allows dancers to customize their schedules according to personal goals, interests, and availability. This makes it ideal for students balancing dance with other activities or exploring their preferred style before committing to a more intensive program.


Students in Core Essentials receive personalized guidance from experienced faculty, developing discipline, technique, and artistry at their own pace. They also have opportunities to perform, showcasing their growth on stage in a supportive environment. The program nurtures confidence, passion, and a deep appreciation for the art of dance, laying a strong foundation for recreational enjoyment, artistic development, or future advancement into The Conservatory.
