Format: Studio-based class with live and recorded musical accompaniment
Recommended for: Students interested in worship-based expressive dance
Course Description: Praise I is a dynamic and expressive course that explores dance as a powerful form of worship and spiritual devotion. Rooted in liturgical, gospel, and contemporary movement styles, this class emphasizes the connection between movement, faith, and storytelling. Students will learn how dance can be used as an act of praise, drawing inspiration from scripture, music, and personal testimony to create meaningful and uplifting performances. Through guided movement exercises, improvisation, and choreographed sequences, dancers will develop a deeper understanding of how intention and emotion shape the power of movement.
Throughout the course, students will refine their ability to use breath, flow, and gesture to communicate a message of worship. They will engage in exercises that emphasize fluidity, expressiveness, and the embodiment of joy, reverence, and gratitude. Special attention will be given to musicality and phrasing, ensuring that movement aligns harmoniously with lyrics and spiritual themes. Students will also explore group dynamics, learning how to move collectively with purpose and unity while maintaining individual authenticity. As they grow in technical ability, they will gain confidence in improvisational praise, allowing for spontaneous movement as a personal and communal expression of faith.
By the end of Praise I, dancers will have developed a stronger connection between their movement and spiritual expression, demonstrating confidence in leading praise sequences and interpreting music with sincerity and depth. They will showcase an increased ability to use dance as a vehicle for storytelling and worship, moving with both technical skill and heartfelt intention. Most importantly, they will leave with a renewed sense of purpose in their movement, equipped with the tools to inspire, uplift, and communicate devotion through dance.
