Hip Hop II

Level: Intermediate

Credits: TBD

Format: Studio-based training with live DJ mixes and recorded accompaniment

Recommended for: Dancers refining their hip hop foundation with more complex choreography and freestyle skills

Course Description: Hip Hop II expands upon the foundational techniques introduced in Hip Hop I, challenging dancers with more intricate footwork, layered rhythms, and advanced movement dynamics. This course deepens students’ understanding of hip hop culture while refining their ability to execute movement with precision and control. Emphasis will be placed on musicality, isolations, and fluid transitions between different hip hop styles, allowing dancers to build versatility and adaptability in their performance. Through both structured choreography and freestyle exploration, students will cultivate their own unique style while staying true to the authenticity of hip hop dance.

As the class progresses, students will be introduced to more complex movement patterns, incorporating elements of popping, locking, and breakdance transitions. Footwork sequences will become faster and more intricate, demanding greater coordination, agility, and spatial awareness. Dancers will refine their execution of isolations, waves, and dynamic accents, learning how to apply strength and control to their movements. Additionally, performance quality will be a major focus, encouraging dancers to embody confidence, attitude, and storytelling within their routines.

By the end of Hip Hop II, students will demonstrate increased technical proficiency, improved endurance, and a stronger ability to execute complex choreography with precision and confidence. Their enhanced sense of rhythm, musicality, and movement control will prepare them for more advanced hip hop styles and performance opportunities. Most importantly, dancers will leave the course with a deeper appreciation for hip hop’s cultural roots and an empowered sense of self-expression, equipping them for continued growth in the genre.
