Course Description: Afro Fusion II builds on the foundations of Afro Fusion I, exploring advanced combinations of West African, Caribbean, and contemporary Afro-diasporic dance styles. Students refine polyrhythmic coordination, intricate footwork, full-body articulation, and musical interpretation. Emphasis is placed on fluid transitions between grounded and suspended movement, dynamic storytelling, and performance authenticity.
Dancers engage in highly technical sequences that require precision, stamina, and expressive intention. The course also deepens cultural understanding, examining the historical and social contexts of movement while fostering appreciation for African and Afro-diasporic traditions. Students learn to interpret music with nuance, demonstrating both technical mastery and emotional depth in their performance.
By the end of this course, students will demonstrate enhanced technical proficiency, rhythmic precision, and expressive artistry in Afro Fusion dance. They will be capable of performing complex combinations with clarity and confidence, embodying the cultural and emotional depth of the movements, and seamlessly integrating musicality into dynamic performance sequences. Students will also develop an informed appreciation of the traditions and contexts that shape Afro-diasporic dance forms.
